A Nepali Historian Balchandra Sharma stated that Gorkha army crossed Alaknanda River and captured territory without any resistance, there was treaty and Gorkha army returned back in 1791. The said statement is absolutely wrong and against the records.
Harsh Dev was present in Almora in 1791. He was providing all sorts of support to Gorkha Commanders for attacking on Garhwal. Gorkha wanted a traitor in Garhwal Kingdom as Harsh Dev Joshi. However, Garhwali administrators fighting among themselves but nobody wanted to deceive his mother land as Harsh Dev Joshi did. Garhwali people had faith and devotion on the King equal to Shri Badrinath. Whenever, Gorkha army tried to attack on Garhwal the Border security forces answered with bravery and did not allow Gorkha army entering into Garhwal territory.
Kumaon Kings used three regions for attacking Garhwal- Chaukhatiya via Havalbagh, Dwarhat Mahargaon at bank of Ramganga. Garhwal Border Security force used to be there in Lohabgarh (8231 Feet height) . Another raod was Simli via Begshwar, Baijnath, Gwaldam, Pindar region Tharali and Narayan Bagad. From Simili the road was via Karnprayag, Rudraprayag and Shrinagar. There was Border Security force at Badhangadhi (8124 Feet height).
Third road was from Almora to Shringar via Bhikhiyasain, Deghat, Gujdugadhi , Devlikhal to Nayar valley. There was Garhwal Force at Gujdugarhi (6000 feet height).
Fourth road for Shringaar from Almora was via Salan (South Garhwal). The road was from Almora to Chhakhata, Bhimtal, Tarai, Ramnagar, Kashipur, Kalagarh and by crossing Ramganga to Kotdwar Bhabhar. From Kotdwara road was via Duggadda, Dadamandi to Langurgarh , Banghat ( , Nayar Valley) , Kanskhet , Naithana , Dev Prayag and Shrinagar.
There was Garhwal Security Force in Langurgarh (Bhairongarh 6200 Feet Height)) near Dwarikhal.
Garhwal King Pradyuman Shah was worried man as Gorkha could attack on Garhwal anytime as their strategy was to attack after winning one territory. However, grokha knew the geographical condition of Shrinagar. Gorkha commanders decided to attack on Garhwal from four ways.
Gorkha commander Sardar Gangaram with his battalion marched towards Chandpur of Garhwal via Havalbagh, Dwarhat, Chaukhatiya from Almora. Garhwal Security Force of Lohabgarhi fought with Gorkha army with bravery. Pradyuman Shah sent another armyto Benital led by Parakram Shah and Army Chief Dharnidhar Khanduri. Dharnidhar defeated Gorkha army and Gangaram was killed in the battle of Benital. Gorkha Army ran away to Almora.
Nepali Historian Bhandari (Nepal ko Aitihasik Vivechana) stated that there was battle between Garhwal Force and Gorkha Army in Malangarhi (Garhwal). However, there was no such place in Garhwal neither there was /is any record for Malangarhi. According to Bhandari, Gorkha army was initiating camping there and Garhwal force attacked Gorkha army. Gorkha Army defeated Garhwal Army but this statement is just written for showing praise of Gorkha Army. No historical evidence is available for Malangarhi battle.

  • Diwakar

Garhwal army was defeated with Gurkha army . It’s undisputable

    • Samir Thapa

It does not matter, who wins or who loses. Actually there was never a real battle between Gorkhas and Garhwal. One party surrendered and that was it. Not more than a dozen people died. So that was it. Even when the battle was between Gorkha and English, the Garhwalis were friendly to Gorkhas while the Kumaonis were helping the English. Kumaonis were opportunists while Garhwalis were friendly to Gorkhas. During the Kings-Queens times everybody fought with everybody. Garhwalis are very brave people just like Gorkhas.

Do you know that between Garhwalis and Gorkhalis we have roti-beti ka rishta till this day? We Gorkhali people are very similar to Garhwali people ….. simple, down to earth, good, poor hilly people.

For those in Nepal, who have never met a Garhwali person, allow me to say : They are very very good people. My best friend since childhood in Dehradun is a Barthwal. They are very much alike Gorkhas, in many ways.

  • Bhaskar bisht

Sameer thapa as you said kumaonis were helping the gorkhas i think this is becuase the gorkha rule is very brutal and opressive and the kumaon peoples want to get rid from the gorkhas due to there opressive rule and same as the garhwal king sudarshan shah sought help from britishers to eliminate the gorkha rule from garhwal.
After which the anglo gorkha war is happend in 1814 and gorkhas were defeated by britishers and the rule of sudarshan shah is restablished.

Do you understand “Divide and Conquer Rule” established , fabricated and distorted by the British Empire

Read the history properly before hitting the conclusion

Why would Gorkhalies attack and enslave Uttarakhandies when it was under the same Khas Empire long before the Gorkhalies attack on the Uttarakhand ?

Have you heard about “Ashokchalla” & “Krachalla” ?

If not , then kindly read about them

Don’t forget the sacrifice of the Gorkhalies for our Great India , Instead of not being the natives of India not for the money but the love they all have for our country

Don’t you remember about the Kedarnath flood in 2013 ? They also donated money virtually especially some of their people came friendly for the help too

But , What do we do In return of them , We call them with different names and insult them too much especially make them do dirty things , block their area , stop supplying them resources etc too which make them too naturally angry and resultant to verbal and physical fight/war etc

By the way , you think only Nepalese are threat to the Uttarakhand not the Indo-Gangetic-Plain Region People especially Biharies and Uttar Pradeshies who visit our peaceful Himalayan with lots of Muslims together with them and spoil the whole state

Our both languages are losing it’s pace (endangered languages) , Did they even care for this thing in Recent “Batti Gul Meter Chalu” Movie with repeated “Ba” and “Thera” words and especially the Biharian and Uttar Pradeshian Accent in whole movie.

If they had cared little bit then they would not have insulted our languages like that but completely understood our Languages and Accent. You can now simply think
about the consequences that could now happen due to that stupid flop Movie all over the Country

We are still accepting them innocently without pointing a finger at them
If that same had happened to other Indo-Gangetic-Plains regional states like Rajasthan (Padmavat). They would have destroyed the whole set with fire all around there and unpredictable worst situation would have been created

      • ntldeepika56411

why so serious?? the guy said what he has read..since you are providing knowledge, you shouldn’t be this rude and offended…
        no offence

        • Rusconnect Gray Hat

I’m serious about this issue mam bcoz , firstly our both of the Languages are endangered and nobody cares for them.

I didn’t offend anyone , kindly understand the situation behind these whole chaos

Secondly , Govt is allowing these Gujjars , Bhaiyas , BIMARU , Muslims , Madheshies , Tharus and Dgooties in our State through which our both of Languages , Cultures , Traditionals !

Thirdly , We are migrating from our own native state for lack of facilities , opportunities and requirements etc

Fourthly , We are selling our own Chogatton , Pungade , Myletu ani Dhuri etc in exchange of Huncho Thunak only

It is too embarassing to me !

You might not understand the situation right now , later on surely , when the entire Uttarakhand turns out to be Madheshies , Tharus and Achyasuken i mentioned on Disqus

I feel very sad to see my Uttarakhand being like this !

          Peace Out
