The sole purpose of Medical Tourism is to enhance healthy age. However in Mahabharata and other Hindu, Jain, Buddhist Shastra the dying is also a purpose of life. Old people used to visit Kedarnath, Kashi and Gaya for dying. It is a strong belief among Hindus that the dying in the above areas is to get heaven.
Mahaprasthanika Parva is seventeenth of eighteenth book of Mahabharata. .Mahaprasthan chapter narrates the journey of Pandavas all over India and finally ascending to Himalayas and dying (or reaching heaven , Yudhishthira and a dog reached heaven with body). Sage Vyasa advised Pandavas for retiring not only from kingdom but from life as their purpose of living was completed .
While ascending in Himalaya (most probably, Kedarnath or Mandakini valley of Rudraprayag Garhwal) Draupadi died first and then all Pandavas died one by one except Yudhishthira and a dog. Yudhishthira reached to heaven with body .
Narator recited the conversation of Pandava brothers and Yudhishthira for dying.
The story of Mahaprasthanika Parva of Mahabharata inspired Hindus for many centuries that even in British period , Hindus used to visit Mandakini Valley of Kedarnath for dying that they reach heaven.
